It's not like American Horror Story needs any more creepy cred, and yet, they're about to get it. Icon of cult classics and self-proclaimed Pope of Trash John Waters has confirmed that he has role in the upcoming, thirteenth season of American Horror Story. And while we don't have any details as to exactly what his role will be, we do kind of know what he'll be trying to do with it.
That is, follow in the footsteps of one Vincent Prince.
We got all this from a live spoken-word event that Waters did for Valentine's Day 2026, first reported on by the Baltimore Fishbowl. Waters, a Baltimore resident, made the announcement during his performance.
"I’m going to announce tonight something new," the Hairspray and Serial Mom director said to a presumably raucous crowd, "I can’t say what role, but I have a big new part in American Horror Story."
In case you don't know, American Horror Story season 13 is rumored to continue on the story begun in American Horror Story season 3, titled Coven. The witchy tales is confirmed to have AHS regular Sarah Paulson back in the cast, along with Waters and another surprising name - Wicked superstar Ariana Grande.
Seems like a no-brainer to cast a very famous witch in your witch TV show, Ryan Murphy, but let's get back to Waters for the moment. See, Waters himself has said that his AHS is building on the shoulders of horror movie legends, particularly, the legend of Vincent Price.
"I’m typecast," said Waters, whose horror movie cameos are extant, "I’m always either the devil or Chucky’s father…I’ve always been trying to steal Vincent Price’s career."
I mean, I can see the appeal - Vincent Price is a legend of sinister cinema, one unlikely to be forgotten for as long as the genre keeps appearing on screen. But to be fair, John, even the great Mr. Price never got to do a voiceover for Helluva Boss.
In fact, now that we're talking about it, better be careful no one tries to steal your career.
Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story is streaming now on Hulu.
