Like most teenage boys, Mark Grayson has trouble getting along with his dad. However, Nolan Grayson isn’t like most fathers. Nolan is a powerful being known as Omni-Man, who has the power to destroy the entire planet. He’s a member of a humanoid alien race known as Viltrumites, and he’s pretty much unstoppable.
That’s where Mark comes in.
As a human-Viltrumite hybrid, Mark has the power to stop his father. Taking on the superhero identity Invincible, Mark is doing his best to protect the planet, whether it’s from his father, the Viltrum Empire, or other strange threats. Based on the hit comic series from Robert Kirkman, Cory Wallker, and Ryan Ottley, Invincible is more than a coming-of-age superhero drama that rewrites the rules of the genre.
If you’ve ever wanted to get into the hit animated series, but weren’t sure how, Popverse has you covered! This guide will tell you everything you need to know about watching Invincible.
How to watch Invincible in release order
Watching Invincible in release order is pretty simple. As of this writing, the franchise consists of the MTV2 motion comic, and the current animated series. The animated series currently has 2 seasons, plus two that are coming up, and a television special. The only question is where the Atom Eve television special fits in, which we cover here. To watch Invincible in release order, just follow this list…
- Invincible (2008 motion comic)
- Invincible season 1 (2021)
- Invincible: Atom Eve (2023 television special)
- Invincible season 2 (2023-2024)
- Invincible season 3 (2025)
- Invincible season 4 (TBA)
How to watch Invincible in chronological order
Invincible’s chronological order is fairly similar to the release order. First off, the 2008 motion comic is a separate entity from the current animated series. While both tell the same story, the current Amazon Prime series is a retelling which goes in its own direction. The series has an Atom Eve special, which takes place at the beginning of the timeline before season 1. To make things easier, we’ve put together a timeline.
According to the season 2 episode ‘In About Six Hours, I Lose My Virginity to a Fish,’ Mark Grayson was part of the graduating class of 2023. Since Invincible season 2 takes place a few months after season 1, that means season 1 takes place during the 2022-2023 school year. We can also use this math (plus contextual clues) to chronologically place the Atom Eve special.
Separate continuity
- Invincible (2008 motion comic)
Amazon Prime continuity
- 2004: Invincible: Atom Eve (prologue)
- 2011-2015: Invincible: Atom Eve (Eve’s childhood scenes)
- 2016: Invincible: Atom Eve (main story)
- 2022-2023: Invincible season 1
- 2023-2024: Invincible season 2
- 2024-TBA: Invincible season 4
- TBA: Invincible season 4
Should I watch Atom Eve before Invincible season 2?
Invincible: Atom Eve was a television special that streamed between Invincible seasons 1 and 2. The special is a prequel focusing on the backstory of the heroine Atom Eve. If you want to watch the Invincible saga unfold in chronological order, then it’s best to watch Invincible: Atom Eve before you begin Invincible season 1. However, if you want to watch in release order, then it’s best to watch Invincible: Atom Eve before starting season 2.
Alternatively, you can watch Invincible: Atom Eve after finishing season 2. While the prequel expands on Eve’s backstory, it’s largely divorced from the overall Viltrumite saga being told in the main Invincible episodes. Therefore, you can skip it without getting lost. However, watching the episode will give you a deeper appreciation for Eve, and some themes from the special are revisited in season 2.
When does Invincible season 3 come out?
Invincible season 3 will premiere on Prime Video on February 6, 2025. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, the first three episodes will premiere at the same time. The rest of the episodes will be released every Thursday through March 13. That means season 3 will be eight episodes, just like seasons 1 and 2 were. Prime Video released a tongue-in-cheek promo stating that they had learned from their mistakes and won’t be taking a midseason break. According to Invincible co-creator Robert Kirkman, Mark will be wearing his black and blue suit in season 3.
Invincible has also been renewed for season 4, but the release date is uncertain. If it follows a production timeline similar to seasons 2 and 3, then we should be seeing it sometime in 2026.
Do Mark and Eve get together in Invincible?
Romance can be tough, even if you’re a superhero.
As you watch Invincible, you might notice the chemistry between Mark Grayson and his Guardians of the Globe teammate Atom Eve. As of this writing, Mark and Eve have not gotten together, but the series has planted the seeds for their romance. The Invincible season 2 finale ‘I Thought You Were Stronger’ has a scene where a multiverse variant of Eve confesses her feelings for Mark.
The aftermath of this revelation will most likely be a big part of Invincible season 3, especially now that Mark has broken up with his girlfriend Amber. In the comics, Mark and Eve get together and eventually get married. However, there is no guarantee that the series will follow the same path (although it seems likely).
For example, Mark and Eve share their first kiss in Invincible #38 (2006), shortly before the Guardians’ mission to Mars. The show has played around the sequence of events, with the Mars mission occurring in season 2 while Mark and Amber are still together.
Where does the ‘Think Mark, Think’ meme come from?
If you’ve spent any time on the internet, then you’ve probably come across the ‘Think Mark, Think’ meme. While there are tons of variations, the meme is usually centered around an image of Omni-Man crouching over a wounded Invincible. The meme is based off a still image from the Invincible season 1 finale ‘Where I Really Come From.’ Funnily enough, the quote is slightly off. In the episode, Omni-Man only says “think” once. However, the quote appears as “Think Mark! Think,” in Invincible #12 (2004), the comic the episode was based on.
In short, if you’re watching Invincible because you want to see where the iconic meme comes from, watch the season 1 finale.
Is Invincible part of the DC or Marvel Universe?
Invincible is not part of the DC or Marvel Universe. Invincible is based on a comic book series published by Image Comics under their Skybound imprint. The Invincible universe contains characters who act as homages to some of Marvel and DC’s most notable heroes. For example, the Invincible character Darkwing is inspired by Batman, and War Woman is inspired by Wonder Woman.
While Invincible takes place in a separate universe, there have been times where the character has interacted with Marvel and DC heroes. For more information on Invincible’s ties to the Marvel and DC Universe, please see the crossover section of this guide.
Does Invincible share a universe with any other television shows or movies?
The Invincible television series has not had any official crossovers with other shows, however, there have been some cool Easter eggs. Invincible season 2 features numerous trips through the multiverse, which include references to other pieces of comic book media.
During the episode ‘I Thought You Were Stronger,’ Angstrom Levy leads Mark into a dimension populated by zombies. This is a reference to The Walking Dead, another property created by Invincible co-creator Robert Kirkman. However, Walking Dead’s television rights are tied up by AMC, so Invincible couldn’t explicitly make it the Walking Dead universe, but they were able to hint at it. In order to appease network suits, these zombies used speech, something the walkers on Walking Dead can’t do.
Walking Dead and Invincible did have a comic book crossover, but it’s unlikely that we’ll see it adapted for the television show. If you want to see the comic book crossover, you can check out Invincible #86. Keep in mind, it’s just a quick guest appearance from Rick Grimes and Shane Walsh.
The same episode implied that Invincible shares a multiverse with the DC Universe. During Mark’s multiversal travels, he comes across a hero in a dark cape. We don’t get a good look at the hero, but Mark asks him about his overuse of the bat-motif. Take from that what you will.
‘I Thought You Were Stronger’ also has Invincible emerge from a dimensional portal holding the Dragon’s Breath Sniper from Fortnite. This implies that Mark’s role as a playable character in the battle royale game is canon. If you ever play Fortnite using the Invincible skin, then know your match is chronologically happening in between the scenes of ‘I Thought You Were Stronger.’
The episode also features a character called Agent Spider, an arachnid themed hero who battles a villain named Doc Ock. As you probably gathered, this is an homage to Spider-Man. During Invincible #33, the comic the episode was based on, the characters are actually Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus, but they aren’t clearly seen. However, this moment led to a proper Spider-Man and Invincible team-up in Marvel Team-Up #14 (2005). Unless Disney lawyers get really generous, it’s doubtful that this story will wind up on the television series.
The Invincible comic book series has also crossed over with Image’s other comic book properties, such as Savage Dragon, Spawn, Youngblood, and more. A comic book crossover is a lot easier to arrange than a television crossover, especially when intellectual property is involved, so it’s unlikely that these stories will be adapted for the Invincible animated series.
Still, that’s a whole lot of crossovers for a show that hasn’t had any official crossovers!
Where can I watch Invincible?
You don’t need top secret clearance from the GDA to watch Invincible, but you do need an Amazon Prime membership. Prime Video is currently the exclusive streaming home for all episodes of Invincible, including the Atom Eve special. If you already have an Amazon Prime subscription, then you have access to Prime Video. Please note, the availability of Invincible might change as streaming licenses expire and new deals are made. However, Invincible was commissioned as a Prime Video exclusive, so it’s likely to stay on the platform for the foreseeable future.
