Was Disney’s Aladdin your sexual awakening? It was for Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss star Brandon Rogers

How Disney’s Aladdin helped Hazbin Hotel’s Brandon Rogers become aware of his burgeoning sexuality

In 1992, Disney's Aladdin took Princess Jasmine on a magic carpet ride, showing her a whole new world. It turns out, she wasn’t the only one. Years before joining the cast of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, voice actor Brandon Rogers watched Disney’s Aladdin, and something awoke within him.

"Aladdin was such a confusing character for me as a child, because I didn’t realize I liked men," Rogers says while appearing at Emerald City Comic Con 2025''s Main Stage Powered by Xfinity for a Hazbin Hotel panel.  "Aladdin was one of those few where it’s like, I didn’t know if I wanted to be him, or I wanted to be in him. There’s just never been a more confusing character to me, as a weird brown closeted gay piece of shit." Rogers continued.

“Brandon has always wanted to get a A-lad-in,” Rogers’ costar Alex Brightman jokes.

“I’d want to be Jasmine for Aladdin,” Rogers says.

Does anybody else want to see fanart of Blitzo and Aladdin riding a magic carpet together? If fanart of that didn’t exist before this panel, it certainly will soon.

You can watch Welcome to the Chaos: Hazbin Hotel & Helluva Boss with Alex Brightman and Brandon Rogers' on the ECCC 2025 Main Stage powered by Xfinity for yourself as part of Popverse's all-encompasing coverage of Emerald City Comic Con 2025. Be there from anywhere.

Here's how to watch Hazbin Hotel (and its tie-ins) in order.
