A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 release date: When the Game of Thrones prequel series from George R.R. Martin arrives on HBO Max

The latest game of Thrones spinoff is nearly here - and we've got everything you need to know about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' release date


You've played the Game of Thrones, visited the House of the Dragon, and now, it's time to meet A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The brand-new, Peter Claffey-starring, George R.R. Martin-praised, prequel to HBO's legendary Game of Thrones series is almost here as of this writing, and Popverse is here to cue you in on when you can expect to journey back to Westeros from the comfort of your own couch.

The A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 release date is January 18, 2026 on HBO Max. The season will be comprised of six episodes which will debut on a weekly basis, with the season finale arriving on February 22, 2026. It has been about a year and a half since viewers got their last dose of Game of Thrones, as the second season finale of House of the Dragon was released on August 4, 2024. And that’s just one of the many exciting TV release dates on the horizon. Here’s the official teaser for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1:

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a prequel to Game of Thrones, and the third series in the franchise. It is an adaptation of the novella Tales of Dunk and Egg by Martin. The show will star Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, AKA “Dunk,” and Dexter Sol Ansell as Dunk’s squire, Aegon Targaryen, AKA Egg. The series will also feature Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor “Breakspear” Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon and Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen. Fans of the franchise will recognize many of the character names from their ancestors, who appeared in Game of Thrones. 

The release date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 on HBO Max is January 18, 2026.
