Thunderbolts star Sebastian Stan says the movie will start shooting really soon
It's been a long time since the Winter Soldier was last seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe...
After several delays and obstacles in the way to production, it appears that Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts will finally be shooting soon - at least, according to Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Sebastian Stan.
The actor, who's been around since Phase 1 as James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes (later known as the Winter Soldier) is back at Sundance for the world premiere of A24's A Different Man, but of course, he's had to answer questions about his next MCU appearance after being missing ever since the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. (Well, that's if you don't count the What If...? gig...)
While speaking to Variety about his newest movie, he revealed when (roughly) we can expect Thunderbolts to get in front of cameras: "I’m excited. I’m going to go back basically in a month or so. I’ve missed it. It’s a great cast." He doesn't give details, but these sentences alone are more than what we've been getting in the last few months regarding one of Marvel Studios' biggest upcoming projects. With a July 25, 2025, date on the horizon (which could shift once again), it's about time production starts.
Another star from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell, recently expressed his excitement about the movie and the talent involved, but didn't know much about the tentative shoot. Stan has given us a potential window, but also hyped up the project and expressed he's feeling great about it: "The batting average is so high that it’s difficult to always land everything right away. It’s always been a great experience. With this one in particular, I think there’s a lot of good things."
While Deadpool 3 could surprise everyone this summer and give Marvel Studios a much-needed win, all eyes are now on the Phase 5 event movie that brings together a group of remarkable antiheroes. With all the Beef talent involved — director Jake Schreier and writer Lee Sung Jin — it's hard not to be slightly optimistic, but if Disney and Marvel really want a winner out of this one, the 'machine' needs to slow down a bit and give the creatives the time and space they need.
