DC's new Supergirl is House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock
The former Rhaenyra Targaryen will become DC's big Kryptonian hero in the new DCU
Say hello to the new Maid of Might: Milly Alcock, known to audiences for her role on HBO’s House of the Dragon, has won the role of Supergirl in the new DC Universe being built by DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Who would take on the role of Superman’s cousin has been the matter of speculation for some time, especially in recent weeks as the matter came closer to a final decision. In winning the role, Alcock — who played the younger Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO’s spin-off from Game of Thrones, which debuted on the network in 2023 — saw off rivals including Meg Donnelly, who played the animated Supergirl in the recent Legion of Super-Heroes movie as well as Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One, and Emilia Jones, who starred in the acclaimed Apple TV+ movie CODA.
It’s unknown when Supergirl will debut in the new incarnation of the DC Universe that will officially launch with 2025’s Superman: Legacy; there are rumors that she’ll appear in that movie, but those have not been officially confirmed by DC or James Gunn, who’s writing and directing the feature. What is known is that she’ll be at the center of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a solo movie inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic book series of the same name. (King is part of the writing team helping to develop the new onscreen DCU.)
No release date has been set for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as yet; Superman: Legacy is set for release July 25, 2025. Here’s a list of the many upcoming DC movies and shows currently in the works.
