Star Wars' C-3PO has a bad rap among fans and in the movies, according to Anthony Daniels
Anthony Daniels thinks everyone should be nicer to C-3PO, and it’s hard to argue with his logic.

C-3PO gets no respect. At least that’s what his actor Anthony Daniels says.
The protocol droid has been a part of the Star Wars saga since the premiere of the first film in 1977. He’s helped save the galaxy numerous times and has been a faithful companion to multiple generations of characters.
However, you wouldn’t know this by looking at how they treat him.
During a spotlight panel at Megacon 2024, C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels asked a group of fans what Star Wars was truly about. One audience member said it was about C-3PO, and Daniels concurred. “It’s about the lovely golden droid, who has been bullied for the last nine movies. Think about it. Think about how people mistreat him, and ignore what he says, and yet he is the most faithful beloved character in the whole movie.”
Daniels has a point. If it wasn’t for Threepio, the Death Star never would have been destroyed. If you rewatch The Empire Strikes Back, you will notice Han Solo belittling him at every turn, even though the droid did nothing to deserve it. In fact, Threepio spends most of the film warning the characters about danger, which they promptly ignore. Even his best pal R2-D2 is constantly giving him lip.
Anthony Daniels is right, Threepio doesn’t deserve any of this bullying. Be kind to your droids, you never know when you will need them to get you out of a trash compactor.
