Report: A new Daredevil show is in the works at Marvel Studios

With the Netflix deal (and fine print lapsed), Daredevil could be returning as a show - possibly even with Matt Murdock

A new live-action Daredevil streaming show is in development at Marvel Studios, reports Variety. The series is reportedly destined for the Disney+ platform (like most all Marvel Studios projects), and already has a core creative team - but no details on whether this is a continuation of the Netflix series or something new.

(Although if I had to guess, it's probably a continuation.)

Both Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio have recently reprised their roles as Matt Murdock/Dardevil (Spider-Man: Far From Home) and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Hawkeye), and both have seen publicly amenable to a revival of the series.

Marvel Studios has reportedly hired the writer/producer team of Matt Corman and Chris Ord for the Disney+ Daredevil series. Their best-known work is the USA Network series Covert Affairs which ran from 2010 to 2014. They have since worked on shows such as NBC's The Enemy Within and Brave, and also on CW's Containment. In those roles they were the series' showrunners, but Variety hasn't specified if that'll be the case here.

The Netflix Daredevil series was reportedly discontinued over a disagreement between the streamer and Marvel Studios (as the latter had Disney+ to partner with in the then-near future). Potential plans for it to simply jump from one streaming service to another weren't then possible, as part of the original deal Marvel signed with Netflix for Daredevil and the others Defenders family of show included a clause that the characters couldn't reprise their Marvel roles in any non-Netflix projects for a period of two years.

Variety says that Marvel Studios declined to comment, but in a way that could lead someone to believe the report is accurate - using the phrase " Marvel Studios reps do not comment on projects in development." Further to that, Variety used some slightly weighted language here: "Marvel has yet to announce anything regarding the show formally," where "formally" could be read to mean this announcement was done informally.
