There’s no getting around it: New York Comic Con 2023 was filled with big panels, big events, and big news. Whether you were in the Javits Center yourself, trying to catch as many announcements as you can live or if you were following along with Team Popverse from home, it’s possible that there are some announcements and news breaks that you missed. Here to help, then, are the biggest announcements from comics, film, and TV at NYCC 2023 for you right here.

Thursday

TV

• A new Dragon Ball anime series was announced, with Dragon Ball Daima, which apparently sees franchise regulars like Goku, Bulma, and others become younger versions of themselves. Surprising? Not just to the fans; voice cast members didn’t know about the show until the on-stage announcement, either. The show debuts in late 2024.
• We got our first look at Orphan Black: Echoes, featuring Krysten Ritter. As you might expect, it’s a clone of the original show with a few twists…
• We also got looks at the second season of Interview with the Vampire and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

Comics

• Miss Minutes might make the leap from the screen to the page, if a tease from Marvel’s editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski pans out.
• DC announced the return of Elseworlds as an imprint, with no less than six new series attached.
• Geoff Johns and friends have formed an ambitious new imprint from Image Comics, called Ghost Machine.

Friday

TV

• Godzilla came to NYCC, as Apple TV+ debuted the first episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters a month early for fans in the room; here’s everything you need to know.
• Horror network Shudder came to celebrate spooky season, and we have the entire panel for you to watch.

Movies

• There’s an unrevealed character in the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie that fans will recognize… But who?
• Horror master John Carpenter revealed what it would take to get him to make a Godzilla movie, and it’s not what you might expect.

Comics

• Chip Zdarsky and Jason Loo’s ComiXology Originals series The All-Nighter is returning for one final storyline… suitably launching on Halloween.
• Former Marvel mainstay Jason Aaron is taking over DC flagship Action Comics for three months to launch a round-robin era of writers on the title… and he’ll be followed by current Superman writer Joshua Williamson for a crossover bringing Brainiac back on stage.
• 2000 AD is collecting some of the finest work the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic ran by the late, great Steve Dillon in a deluxe format edition.

Saturday

Movies

• Matthew Vaughn broke a few bits of news at his panel, including a third Kingsman movie and a reboot of Kick-Ass both being shot next year. Yes, that’s right; a Kick-Ass reboot. “Kick-Ass kind of changed people’s perception of what a superhero film is, at that time, so we’re doing it again. It’s none of the characters from the other [Kick-Ass]]; we’d like to bring them back after the reboot, but this reboot is going off on a tangent I really can’t talk about now,” he teased. Expect a lot more soon, I suspect. (He also talked about Argylle; it’s a really good panel that you should check out.

Games

• Vincent Valentine was cast for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth... and Matthew Mercer has got his dream job, as a result.

Comics

• Peach Momoko will be the creative force behind the new Ultimate X-Men series.
• There’s also going to be the first Ultimate Black Panther series, as well.
• The mainstream Marvel Universe is headed towards a big vampire-themed crossover in 2024, somewhat unexpectedly. (It’s being written by Avengers’ Jed McKay, so at least it’ll be fun.)
• Even more unexpectedly, something pet-themed called Infinity Paws is coming to Marvel Unlimited next year.
• Jason Todd will live again… again… as DC plans to reprint Batman #428, the issue that killed Robin, with a difference. Namely, they’re printing the version that would have been released had the phone vote gone the other way.
• John Constantine, Hellblazer might be technically dead, but he’s getting a new series from Si Spurrier and Aaron Campbell.
• Image Comics imprint Giant Generator has signed 12 former Marvel and DC creators to exclusive contracts to create all-new work they’ll own.
• Lore Olympus is going to return in November… as Rachel Smythe moves towards the series’ conclusion, set for sometime next year.

Not exactly an announcement, but it turns out Charlie Cox had been wandering the show floor of NYCC on Saturday in disguise...

TV

• Fans got to see the opening seven minutes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and those watching the livestream at home got to see the first looks of a number of the central cast in their roles. Oh, and Rick and Becky Riordan showed up on stage, as well!
