Five Nights at Freddy's director teases surprise franchise character in the upcoming movie
Let the fan theories commence!
Through seven core games and various spinoffs, the Five Nights at Freddy's video game franchise has built a world full of haunted animatronics, and fans can start getting excited about the addition of one more for the franchise's film debut. During the New York Comic Con Blumhouse Blumfest panel, Five Nights At Freddy's director Emma Tammi told the audience one more reason to stay excited about the movie:
"There's one [Five Nights at Freddy's] character that we have not yet revealed in any of the teasers or trailers. So that's something to look forward to."
Based on the 2014 video game Five Nights at Freddy's, created by Scott Cawthon (who co-wrote the film screenplay), the upcoming movie teases a haunted '80s relic known as Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria (with strong Chuck-E-Cheese vibes!), where a teenager and his sister discover the singing animatronics that come alive at night with murderous intent. According to producer Jason Blum, hot off the success of 2022's M3GAN, the movie is eight years in the making, and will debut in theaters on Halloween 2023.
Trailers have revealed the presence of original animatronics Freddy Fazbear, Chica, and Bonnie, but mystery remains who else might make the cut. Fan theories already point to The Marionette, The Puppet, or Balloon Boy, with several fans speculating the reveal could come in a post-credits tease for Five Nights at Freddy 2.
Either way, fans can grab a slice of pizza and let their childhood scare them sleepless this October 31, 2023 watching Five Nights at Freddy's on the big screen.
