Wicked: For Good isn’t just an origin story for the Wicked Witch, says Ariana Grande — it’s where Glinda decides to be good for good, too
Thank U, Next singer Grande says we'll get to see the exact moment when Glinda decides to be good - not just be told she is good.

Adaptations are tricky things. You have to stay faithful to the original so you don’t alienate existing fans, but you need to change things from the original because otherwise, what’s the point? For Wicked: For Good, one change they’re making is expanding on Glinda’s descent into goodness. Not only is it getting fleshed out a bit more in the sequel, but they’ve added a new song that wasn’t in the original Wicked stage musical.
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Ariana Grande explained that Wicked: For Good settles the debate about whether Glinda is truly good or just letting people push her in that direction, with much of that realization coming from a new song created for the movie. “We get to see [Glinda] decide, ‘I’m going to change the course of Oz. I’m going to become deeply, truly good and make a safe space for people.’ She earns her title for real, and we get to see that self-discovery. I’m so grateful for that song, because she deserves it as a character.”
The new song in Wicked: For Good is called ‘Girl In The Bubble’ and was written by Stephen Schwartz, the composer for the original stage show, but it isn’t just the song that they’ve added to bring a bit more out of Glinda. “It’s traumatic event after traumatic event after traumatic event, and they’re all shaping her and propelling her into her actual goodness,” Grande confirmed. “That has quietly been there all along, but she wasn’t ready for it yet. Even in the first film, you get to see those layers slowly peeling away, but in this film, it’s rapid and urgent. It goes even deeper than imaginable.”
Wicked: For Good is out in cinemas on November 21, 2025.
