We’re well into 2026, and the future of Warner Bros. is still up in the air. The ongoing saga as both Netflix and Paramount try to purchase the historic film studio. It seems like everyone has an opinion about the proposed deals, which has Avengers actor Mark Ruffalo trading very public barbs with Avatar director James Cameron.
To be clear, the proposed merger between Netflix and Warner Bros. would be one of the biggest stories in Hollywood’s history, so it isn’t surprising that actors and directors have a vested interest in how the story shakes out. Earlier in February, James Cameron wrote a letter to Republican Senator Mike Lee, saying that he viewed the proposed sale of Warner Bros to Netflix as “disastrous for the theatrical motion picture business” and would lead to massive job losses in Hollywood.
Following this, Mark Ruffalo, who has appeared in multiple Netflix original movies over the years alongside playing the Hulk in the MCU since 2012, posted on social media his criticism of James Cameron’s statement. “So… the next question to Mr Cameron should be this… ‘Are you also against the monopolization that a Paramount acquisition would create? Or is it just that of Netflix?’ I think the answer would be very interesting for the film community to hear and one that should be asked immediately. Is Mike Lee against the Paramount sale as well? Is he as concerned about that as he is the Netflix sale? We all want to know…. Speaking on behalf of hundreds of thousands of film makers world wide.”
The thing is that both James Cameron and Mark Ruffalo raise excellent points about the potential sale of Warner Bros. to either Netflix or Paramount. It would be a massive shakeup in the film industry, no matter what happens. In the meantime, plenty of filmmakers and fans are likely to chime in about what they think should happen with the iconic film studio.
