Two of the highlights of recent years for Spider-Man movie fans have been the Spider-Verse animated movies and Sony’s gonzo live-action Venom films — and now, it turns out, Sony Pictures is planning to see if two great tastes taste great together with an all-new all-animated Venom feature. And they’ve brought some unexpected directors on board to make it happen.

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Sony has tapped Zach Liposky and Adam B. Stein to head up plans for the animated feature, with live action Eddie Brock Tom Hardy “understood to be involved in some capacity as well,” although it’s unclear exactly what capacity. (In addition to starring in the live-action Venom movies, he was also a producer; he might be involved with the Venom property in that role moving forward.)

If Liposky and Stein’s names don’t sound too familiar, you’re probably aware of their work — after all, they’re the directing duo that brought the Final Destination franchise back from the dead with 2025’s Final Destination: Bloodlines which feels full of the same kind of melodramatic comedy that made the Venom movies such fun. Per THR, no writer has been attached to the new project yet, with Sony Pictures Animation opening up a writers room to develop a screenplay.

Venom last appeared on the big screen in 2024’s Venom: The Last Dance. The next animated Spider-Man project from Sony Pictures Animation will be 2027’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
