At this point in time, it's difficult to think of a time before Dr Seuss. I personally can't because I have only ever been alive in a post-Dr Seuss world. But you can catch my drift here: generations of children have learned to read with the help of his books. As opposed to other old-school alternatives like Dick and Jane, Dr Seuss's books weren't tedious to read, and they had whimsical art to boot. Dr Seuss stories have also found new life in a series of graphic novels from Random House Graphic, so the legend continues to live on!
Since The Cat in the Hat and The Lorax films are coming to Netflix on January 1, 2025, we've put together a list of all the Dr Seuss movies and television shows so you can knock yourself out.
All Dr Seuss movies and TV shows in release order
To get started with your Dr Seuss marathon, you'll want to begin with a series of short films before moving on to the TV specials from the 1960s through '80s. Some of these specials are easier to find, like How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, but others like Pontoffel Pock, Where Are You? seem to only be available on VHS. If the earlier 2D animated projects aren't your jam, then you'll be pleased to hear that the later projects like The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss and How the Grinch Stole Christmas film with Jim Carrey are much easier to find on streaming.
- Horton Hatches the Egg - short film (1942)

Upcoming Dr Seuss movies
Currently, there are plans for a blessedly animated Cat in the Hat film with Bill Hader in the works over at Warner Bros. Animation. As it turns out, Bill Hader had played a version of the character on Saturday Night Live. The Cat in the Hat film will feature Bowen Yang, Matt Berry, and Quinta Brunson, which is a pretty solid comedic team if you ask me. In addition, Wicked director Jon M. Chu is set to direct an adaptation of Oh, The Places You'll Go! that is set for a 2027 release date.
- The Cat in the Hat (2026)
- Thing One and Thing Two (2026)
- Oh, The Places You'll Go! (2027)
Was the Grinch based off a real person?
Yes, the Grinch was reportedly based off a real person - Dr Seuss himself. The writer revealed that the consumerism associated with Christmastime made him a bit cranky, and drove him to write the book.
Is there a Green Eggs and Ham movie?
There is no Green Eggs and Ham movie. Instead, it's a series on Netflix. It has two seasons and features talent like Diane Keaton, Michael Douglas, Tracy Morgan, Eddie Izzard, and Ilana Glazer.
Who sings the theme song for Green Eggs and Ham on Netflix?
Why, that would be Rivers Cuomo, the singer of the band Weezer! The title of the song is called "Backflip," which is pretty cool if I do say so myself.
Was Dr Seuss a real doctor?
No, Dr Seuss wasn't a medical doctor. He also never got a Ph.D either. The reason why he has the "Dr" prefix is because his father wanted him to study medicine. That said, his alma mater, Dartmouth College, awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1955 for his contributions to children's literature.
