Jared Leto invades the real world as a rogue AI in Tron: Ares, complete with a Nine Inch Nails soundtrack to back him up

Jeff Bridges returns for his third Tron film, more than 40 years after he first made the jump into the digital world.

For over 40 years, Tron has been one of the most beloved franchises in science fiction. Its unique take on the digital world and embrace of video games before Mario was Super was ahead of its time and the upcoming sequel, Tron: Ares, is bringing in Jared Leto as a rogue AI bent on invading the real world. Because we apparently don’t have enough problems with AI right now.

Disney revealed the first look at Tron: Ares at CinemaCon this week, complete with the two stars coming together on stage. Jared Leto and Jeff Bridges, who is returning once again as video game designer Kevin Flynn, introduced a clip that included Leto’s AI Ares taking over a fleet of spaceships that descend upon a city. Ares, in Leto’s words, is an AI who escapes the digital world on a “do or die mission to fulfill his direction.”

“It will hit you right in the grid, whatever that is,” Jared Leto explained. Meanwhile, Jeff Bridges chimed in to explain that the soundtrack of Tron: Ares is set to deliver a slightly different follow-up to Tron: Legacy’s Daft Punk-led soundtrack. “The music,” he said on stage. “We’ve got Nine Inch Nails, man. You’re in for a treat.”

The stakes certainly feel higher if the digital world is attempting to bleed over into the real world in Tron: Ares, which explains why the soundtrack sounds like it is going to be heavier.

Tron: Ares is due out in theaters on October 10, 2025.
