Thunderbolts* almost featured Man-Thing in its main cast, but Marvel Studios had other ideas

As fans of Marvel's swampy Man-Thing, we're just honored that Jake Schreier even wanted him to be a part of Thunderbolts*

If you meet enough comic book fans, you'll eventually come across that one person who is fanatical about monster characters no one else cares about. I'm that guy. But so is Jake Schreier, director of Thunderbolts*, evidently!

As reported by GamesRadar, Schreier wanted Man-Thing to be a part of the tentpole film before Marvel Studios's larger plans for the character quashed his intentions. "I think there was a point during pitching when I really wanted Man-Thing to be on the team," Schreier said. (To be fair, he was a big part of the comic book Thunderbolts for awhile back in the late 2000s.) But alas, with Man-Thing appearing in the stellar, Michael Giacchino-directed Werewolf By Night special, Schreier feels that "it all worked out for the best."

Thunderbolts* cast of characters is nothing to sneeze at, even without Man-Thing (or my personal favorite Marvel monster, American Kaiju - just look him up). Ghost and Taskmaster are both impressive to see in action, despite the fact that the MCU's version of Taskmaster doesn't have the quippy personality of his comic book counterpart. But that's fine! We have enough quippy boys in the MCU to begin with, and society has suffered enough from Joss Whedon and his signature style of dialogue.

David Harbour's Red Guardian was a hoot in Black Widow, alongside Florence Pugh's excellent Yelena Belova, and we will never, ever, complain about Bucky being a part of anything. Wyatt Russell's sneering John Walker just tops it all off. If Man-Thing not appearing in Thunderbolts* is how we got Lewis Pullman to play another character named Bob, then that's a trade-off I'm willing to accept.
