The Princess Bride musical adaptation is apparently still going ahead after being in development for an inconceivably long time
The Princess Bride musical has been in some stage of development for almost a decade, so we can wait a little while longer.

There is a shortage of perfect movies in the world. It would be a pity to ruin The Princess Bride’s iconic legacy by rushing any sort of adaptation out before it was ready. Which is probably why it has taken well over a decade to get as close as we are to a stage musical version of the book and film. However, after years of waiting, it seems that serious work is finally happening on The Princess Bride musical this summer.
Bob Martin and Rick Elice, who co-wrote the book that became the basis for recent Broadway hit Smash, were recently asked about the progress of the long-gestating musical adaptation The Princess Bride, since they are both attached to it as well. The musical version of the beloved William Goldman book and movie has been in various stages of development for longer than it takes to climb the Cliffs of Insanity but, hopefully, we won’t have to wait too much longer.
“It’s progressing nicely, actually.” Bob Martin said in an interview. “It’s been a long journey for that one – almost 10 years now, I believe. But it is progressing with the new composing team. I don’t know if we’re allowed to name them! We can say that we’re doing a substantial workshop at the end of the summer going into fall. We’ve been working on it in various ways over the last few years, but we’re going to sit down with all the material then.”
So it sounds like we’ll have to wait a few more months to find out more about The Princess Bride musical adaptation. Hopefully, it remains worth the wait.
