The Mummy is Universal Pictures' movie monster that refuses to die. And for good reason - the 1999 version of The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz was a landmark moment for an entire generation of bisexuals, at the very least. And now, that iteration of The Mummy lives to see another day with a new movie starring Fraser and Weisz now in the works at Universal Pictures.
As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Fraser and Weisz's Mummy movie will be directed by Radio Silence, the directing team who made the 2019 Samara Weaving movie, Ready or Not. According to THR, the project is reportedly a "sequel" and "not a reboot," and will reportedly ignore the events of the third Mummy movie.
It's worth noting that Evil Dead Rise director, Lee Cronin, was previously announced as signing on for a Mummy movie. Currently, it's unclear how the Fraser and Weisz movie relates to what Cronin has been working on. Cronin's Mummy movie has James Wan signed on as an executive producer. However, Cronin's Mummy film will be distributed by Warner Bros. and will be produced by New Line Cinema, Blumhouse Productions, and Atomic Monster, making it the first Mummy movie that isn't produced by Universal Pictures since the Hammer Films days.
So, it looks like Mummy fever is about to hit all of us within the next few years. Honestly, the more the better.
