Why Emilio Estevez held off on doing any Breakfast Club reunions – until now

That caption was written on top of The Breakfast Club’s theatrical posters, but now it’s no longer accurate. After 40 years, the five no-longer-teenage misfits have reunited. The only question is, what took so long?
There have been other Breakfast Club reunion panels before, including one at Megacon earlier this year, but the Don’t You Forget About Me: The Breakfast Club 40th Anniversary Reunion panel at C2E2 2025 is the first time that all five have been together at the same time.
“This is the first time that Emilio has joined us,” Molly Ringwald said. “We don’t have to use the cardboard cutout anymore because he’s here. I feel really moved that we’re all together.”
Speaking to moderator Josh Horowitz, Emilio Estevez explained why he said yes this time. “I skipped all of my high school reunions. This was just something that I felt I needed to do for myself. But Josh, this one felt special. It’s here in Chicago where we made the film. It is obviously the 40th anniversary, and it just felt like it was time.”

Plus, he didn’t want his castmates to think he hated them. “Somebody told me that Molly said, ‘Well, does Emilio just not like us.’ And that broke my heart. Of course, I love all of them. And it just made sense, so here I am.”
