The Summer of Superman has been a successful one for DC Studios. James Gunn's Superman film was a hit for moviegoers and critics alike, and it's become the highest-grossing Superman film at the domestic box office. Since DC Studios's new DC Universe is still in its infancy, Superman's strong performance has signaled that the future is bright for their upcoming slate of projects.

James Gunn revealed to Collider that he has already completed a treatment, or a summary, of a sequel film to Superman. Gunn said, “We’re scheduling [the Superman sequel] now. I’m totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense. They’re not regular treatments. They’re 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything. And so, now I’m just turning that into a script. We’re planning out when we’re going to shoot that. It’s going to be much sooner rather than later.”

Keep in mind that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow flies into theaters June 26, 2026 next summer. So in a year from now, we'll all be living the Summer of Supergirl. Milly Alcock's version of Kara Zor-El debuted in a scene at the end of Gunn's Superman film. Also, James Watkins's Clayface film starring Tom Rhys Harries will mosey on into theaters on September 11, 2026. And, the Lanterns TV show starring Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler will drop on HBO Max in "early 2026." In short, we will be eating well next year as DC fans.

While it's not currently known what Gunn would like to have happen in Superman's sequel, I'm going to throw out into the universe that I would love to see Parasite and Metallo as the film's big heavy.
