Minecraft's Jason Momoa and WWE champion Roman Reigns might be Legendary and Capcom's new Street Fighter stars

Jason Momoa and Roman Reigns are amongst the actors reportedly close to signing on for the upcoming cinematic reboot of fan-favorite fighting game Street Fighter

While the plot (and release date) are still mysteries surrounding the upcoming big screen reboot of Street Fighter, it’s at least it’s becoming clearer who’s going to be bringing it to life onscreen, with A Minecraft Movie’s Jason Momoa, WWE champion Roman Reigns, and more being reported as circling the upcoming movie.

Deadline is reporting that Momoa, Reigns, Andrew Koji (Warrior, Bullet Train) and Noah Centineo (Black Adam, Warfare) are all being courted to star in the currently-in-development adaptation of the beloved video game. The movie will be directed by Kitao Sakurai, who’s probably best known at this point for his television work on FX’s Dave, Adult Swim’s The Eric Andre Show, and Peacock’s Twisted Metal — the latter of which is, of course, a video game adaptation itself.

The new Street Fighter is being developed by Legendary Pictures, which has proven itself adept with video game franchises — it’s one of the producers of A Minecraft Movie, after all — as well as fan-favorite properties, with Godzilla x Kong and Dune both under its umbrella. Interestingly, Legendary is developing the movie with Capcom itself, indicating a level of oversight that the producer of the video games will have over the finished project that the original 1994 cult movie lacked. (But, of course, that movie did have Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue to make up for that.)

Casting news will likely go a long way to reassuring fans about the status of the movie, which had appeared in jeopardy after the movie was pulled from its March 2026 release date back in March this year. The movie is clearly still in the works — and if the rumored cast all sign on, perhaps it means we’ll be getting a release date announcement (or, at least, a hint) at some point in the near future, as well.
