Boba Fett has some unfinished business with Mace Windu.
In 2002’s Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, young Boba watched in horror as Jedi Master Mace Windu beheaded his father Jango Fett. Boba was played by Daniel Logan, a young actor who was 13 when he landed the role. Logan was looking forward to getting his revenge on Mace Windu. However, when Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith hit theaters in 2005, Palpatine was the one who killed Mace Windu, and Boba Fett was absent from the film.
During a spotlight panel at GalaxyCon Richmond, Daniel Logan spoke about Boba Fett’s unfinished business with Mace Windu. “He should’ve been taken care of, and it should’ve been by me, because the Emperor I don’t think really did that good of a job [imitates Palpatine’s lightning noises]. Darth Maul has come back to life so many times and he was chopped in half like four times.”
In fact, Logan was originally slated to appear in Revenge of the Sith, where he would’ve been the one to finish Windu off. “George Lucas held me for Revenge of the Sith, and we had ‘Revenge of,’ but they hadn’t finished the title. I believe it was probably going to be Revenge of the Fett, because the storyline, which you can go and see online, there was a storyboard that was already created that Boba Fett was meant to have another arena scene with Mace Windu.”
“Mace was going to come at Boba like he did with Jango, but because Boba had already experienced beforehand what had happened, I hit the jetpacks, I fly upside down, or on my back. As I’m flying on my back with the jetpacks along the ground, I pull out Jango’s blasters and I shoot him right between the stomach, and that’s how Mace Windu was meant to die. I was sitting there at Lucasfilm like [makes excited noises]. And they’re like, ‘Okay, we’re holding you for a year.’ And I was like, ‘Okay.’ I kept calling, ‘Is it my turn yet? Is it my turn?’”
The storyboard Logan is referring to was previously seen in Star Wars Insider #85 and The Making of Revenge of the Sith book. According to both publications, Lucas planned for Boba to kill Mace but later vetoed the idea when he realized that Fett was too young.
According to Logan, there’s more to the story.
“Samuel Jackson went into George Lucas’s office and he says, ‘You know, I don’t think that this young kid should have the power to be able to kill someone who sits on the Jedi Council. And plus, I don’t want to be killed by no punk kid.’ I happen to be that punk kid.”
And thus, Boba Fett was written out of Episode III, and Mace Windu was killed by Palpatine. Logan would later reprise his role as Fett for an arc on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The storyline had a young Fett attempt to get revenge on Mace Windu but ultimately fail. After all, the character had to survive in order to be killed by Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith.
Logan has no hard feelings towards Jackson, but he joked that the actor should throw him a bone. “If you’re going to ruin my career on that part, you could’ve at least given me an opportunity in the Marvel series. Like, ‘Hey kid, sorry you didn’t kill me in that, but you could be my friend and, you know, Iron Man, or something.’”
Hmmmm….Nick Fury is still alive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If the character ever meets his untimely end, perhaps Daniel Logan should be the one to do the deed. After all, he’s no longer a punk kid.
