While I don't necessarily need more live-action Spider-Man movies (though I won't say "no" to one with Big Wheel in it), I am glad to see that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shooting on location again. The last Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home had been shot entirely on soundstages, and it certainly looked that way when it hit theaters in 2021. Considering how much I loved Spider-Man: Homecoming for providing the most authentic depiction of New York City in a Spider-Man movie yet, it was a huge bummer to see my hometown represented as a nighttime CGI void for the most part in No Way Home. 

Now, Tom Holland has revealed details about the upcoming Brand New Day movie, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, in an interview with Flip Your Wig. “Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal, and I think we were really restricted with what we could do in [No Way Home] because of COVID. We shot the entire film on stages. Now we’re really gonna lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow. We are gonna use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we are putting together," Holland said. 

Glasgow is no stranger to big-budget Hollywood productions. It was used to simulate 1969 New York City in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and the Glasgow Necropolis was featured towards the end of The Batman, when Batman and Catwoman ride their motorcycles out of Gotham City. It remains to be seen if Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also use the Necropolis as a filming location (personally, I would love that, even if the New Yorker in me would be offended that Marvel Studios passed over Brooklyn's gorgeous Green-Wood Cemetery). But considering that Aunt May died in No Way Home, and we have yet to see Peter actually mourn the passing of his Uncle Ben, perhaps Spidey is due for a good ol' fashioned gravesite visit - this time in the same cemetery that Batman himself rode through.
