Sam Raimi says his Spider-Man 4 wouldn't "be right," considering a new generation is "really into" the MCU's Peter Parker

Sam Raimi's Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, "have gone elsewhere," said the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director. But Raimi himself is excited to see where Tom Holland's Parker goes next

Bad news for everyone that hoped Spider-Man: No Way Home would resurrect Sam Raimi's Spidey saga. According to the trilogy's captain, Raimi himself, there is officially no chance of a Spider-Man 4. The Send Help director says that it wouldn't "be right for me to go back and try and resurrect my version of this story," what with another new generation of Spider-Man movies having already picked up the torch.

A torch, by the way, that Raimi himself enjoys following.

The director made the comments to Variety in an article published January 24. Despite the fact that we saw Raimi's Peter Parker - that is, Tobey Maguire - in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's multiversal third film in their Spider-Man storyline, Raimi says that both he and Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane Watson "have gone elsewhere."

"For a brief time," Raimi told the outlet, "I was handed the torch to carry on after 40 years of Spider-Man comics [...] and then after my three movies, I handed the torch off to someone else. And I think they’ve got to keep running with the storyline and the audience that is now following the torchbearer."

Noting that a new generation of moviegoers is "really into" the MCU's take on Spider-Man, but interestingly not mentioning Sony's Spider-Verse films, Raimi indicates that taking up the mantle of the wallcrawler's cinematic creative lead would take away from the story's larger progress.

And after some 50 years in the movie business, Sam Raimi is probably a person to trust in this kind of thing

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies are streaming on Disney+. Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31.

Marvel's most reliable superhero has proven he can do a whole lot more than just 'whatever a spider can.' Swing into Spidey's history with Popverse's...

Just watch out for that radioactive blood.
