Sinners box office barely drops for second weekend, the second best for a horror film after 2017's It
Between its first and second weekend in theaters, Ryan Coogler's vampire hit Sinners only dropped 6% in sales - an incredible achievement for a theatrical horror run

As you'll certainly recall if you've been on Popverse lately, Ryan Coogler's Sinners has become something of a megasuccess - it's a horror script from a director well known to play in non-horror franchise sandboxes, but it's reaching numbers that few original stories do these days. And after it's second weekend in theaters, it only looks like the Sinners train will keep on chugging - having seen less than 10% drop between the weekends.
And that's not even where its success in the horror field ends. Let's get into the numbers.
According to Deadline, Sinners has retained the #1 spot in US box offices that it earned on its opening weekend after its second, a point at which many seemingly successful movie openings drastically drop. But for Sinners, the box office take for Weekend 2 was $45M, down just 6% from its domestic opening of $48M. As a comparison, Jordan Peele's 2017 smash hit Get Out, also a horror feature, dipped 15% in the same time period.
But as we mentioned above, that's hardly the only impressive part of Sinners' first two weeks in theaters. Deadline also reports that Sinners second-weekend showing is only bested by one other film in the history of horror cinema, that is, the Andy Muschietti-directed adaptation of Stephen King's It. In 2017, that film's second weekend earnings brought in $60.1M, making it the undefeated champ of horror sequel weekends ever since.
Although we do feel the need to point out that, up against a literal Stephen King adaptation, an original vampire story coming second is pretty damn impressive.
Sinners is in theaters now.
