DC Studios is taking the longtime motto of DC’s war comics — “Make War No More” — to heart, with the movie version of Sgt. Rock being pulled from the production schedule ahead of its planned shoot, according to multiple reports.

The feature, to be helmed by director Luca Guadagnino from a script by Justin Kuritzkes — who wrote both of Guadagnino's last two movies, Challengers and Queer — was expected to start shooting this summer, say sources, although casting was not complete on the project. After initially being rumored to star Daniel Craig, Colin Farrell was eventually cast in the lead role of Sgt. Frank Rock, US soldier and leader of Easy Company during World War II.

The project is not dead, it’s worth noting — instead, it’s been placed on hiatus for practical concerns, insiders have told both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter. The problem seems to be that the movie would need to shoot outside in the summer, and was unlikely to make that schedule this year for a number of factors.

A 2026 shoot is now being eyed, although it’s unclear if that would mean that Guadagnino would have to depart the project; following the success of his last two movies, the Italian director has also been attached to an adaptation of the novel Lord of the Flies, as well as a remake of American Psycho, amongst many other projects. Farrell’s involvement, too, may be in doubt as a result of the rescheduling. If Sgt. Rock does return to action next year, it's possible it could be an entirely different movie with an entirely different creative team as a result of the delay.
