Robert Eggers is doing A Christmas Carol and David Harbour is back for Violent Night 2 - Christmas 2026 is gonna be WILD

A Christmas Carol from the Nosferatu guy, plus Harbour returning as a different kind of Red Guardian? Ain't nobody gonna be sleeping in heavenly peace, is all we're saying

Growing up a little weirdo, my favorite ghost in A Christmas Carol was always Christmas Future. Even if you weren't a little freak like me, you have to admit he was the most fun. A spooky guy surrounded by almost post-apocalyptic visions? He was basically the Doom Slayer of the Holidays! Maybe that's why I'm so excited for Christmas 2026, where action and horror are going to be colliding in an all-out Holliday Hellscape.

To kick things off, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news June 11 that a Violent Night 2 was in the works, set for release at Yuletide next year. The original movie saw director Tommy Wirkola helming a story of a battle-scarred, gun-toting Santa Claus (played by Thunderbolts' David Harbour) painting the snow red in a hostage-situation gone wrong. According to THR, both Wirkola and Harbour will return for the sequel.

But the madness doesn't end there. On the same day, Deadline reported that Nosferatu A-lister Robert Eggers would be using his grim, gloomy sensibilities to bring to life Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol next year. The person he's looking to bring on as Ebeneezer Scrooge is none other than frequent collaborator Willem Dafoe, although Deadline does clarify that he's only the "top choice," and not yet confirmed for the role.

As I don't need to even tell you at this point, I've always been more of a Halloween guy than a Christmas fan. But I'll be damned if this doesn't make me feel more Merry and Bright about the 2026 holiday season, even if it's because the movies I'll be going to see are anything but.
