Toei Animation is teasing a new global anime movie out in 2025 - and we think it could be the next One Piece movie

Diving into the financial reports for companies like Toei can reveal all sorts of secrets - including a future One Piece movie.

Things are never quiet on the One Piece front. Between the live-action series from Netflix reportedly close to wrapping up filming and the anime going on its longest hiatus ever, the one thing that seems to be missing is a new One Piece movie to keep fans hooked until the anime returns in April. According to a recent report from Toei Animation, the next One Piece movie could be announced sooner than we thought.

It all comes from the quarterly report for the period ending in September 2024. At the time, Toei Animation cited Dragon Ball Daima and One Piece as their “Large IP Projects” going forward. These are the properties they expect to perform well in the global market. In the same report, Toei confirmed that there was a new anime film in production for global audiences due out in the 2025 financial year.

We’re speculating a bit here, but that seems to confirm that a new One Piece movie is on its way in the next year. At least, the timing seems to make sense. The One Piece anime went on hiatus until April 2025, which is by far the longest break the otherwise consistent series has had over its 25-year run. At the same time, One Piece Film: Red came out in 2022, so we’re about due for a One Piece movie. It doesn’t take a huge stretch of the imagination to consider that the anime went on hiatus to allow the studio to focus its efforts on the upcoming One Piece movie, which could come out late in 2025.

An announcement about the next One Piece movie could be just around the corner. Jump Fiesta 2025 takes place December 21-22 and already promises to tell us who the new voice of Franky is going to be in the One Piece anime. A movie out in 2025 could be an even bigger announcement for One Piece fans ahead of the holidays.
