It’s beginning to look like the gang might be getting back together for one last job, with a new figure at the head of the table, as reports are beginning to emerge that the long-rumored Ocean’s 14 might be edging towards actually happening… with none other than John Wick director David Leitch as director.

The InSneider broke the news, with other outlets later confirming that Leitch — who also directed 2024’s The Fall Guy, 2018’s Deadpool 2, and 2019’s The Fast and the Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw — is in talks to direct a revival of the Ocean’s series of movies with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Casey Affleck all expected to return should the project move forward.

If Ocean’s 14 happens, it’ll be the first reunion for the core cast since 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen, the final part of Steven Soderbergh’s heist trilogy which also included 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven and 2004’s Ocean’s Twelve. (Admittedly, the numbering convention makes it pretty clear.) That doesn’t mean it’ll be the first movie in the Ocean’s series since 2007, though; 2018 saw the release of the spin-off feature Ocean’s 8, fronted by Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett. Curiously, that movie seemed to state that Clooney’s character Danny Ocean was dead… but there’s always a workaround to that kind of thing if everyone wants one, of course.

Unfortunately, not all of the core Ocean’s cast would be able to return for a fourth installment; Bernie Mac died in 2008, and Carl Reiner passed in 2020.

The question of whether or not the Ocean’s series would return has been an open one for some years; prior to its release, there were rumors that Ocean’s 8 could be the start of a series that eventually never materialized. (If it had been another trilogy, the numbering would have led up to Ocean’s 10, notably.) Additionally, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling have been reported to be developing a prequel to the entire franchise set in the 1960s.

It’s easy to see why so many stars want to get into the Ocean’s world, though; it’s purposefully glamorous, fast-moving, and light. As an actor, that isn’t just something to appreciate and enjoy — it’s a steal.
