Fans of Mortal Kombat might not have been able to see the exclusive sneak peek at the second movie in the reboot of the video game adaptation series premiered at CinemaCon, but they can at least appreciate that we now know when the movie is due in theaters.
The sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat will see Karl Urban take on the role of Johnny Cage — something he underscored in the footage, where he announced to the audience, “I am Johnny fucking Cage. It’s showtime,” according to reports.
Once again directed by Simon McQuoid, Urban isn’t the only newcomer to the franchise this time out; he’s joined by Tati Gabrielle, who’ll play Jade, and Adeline Rudolph, who’ll play Kitana. Reprising their roles from the previous movie will be Ludi Lin, Mechad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Jos Taslim, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Jessie McNamee as Sonya Blade.
New Line Studios head Richard Brenner, who introduced the footage at CinemaCon had this to say about the second movie: “Expect amazing fights, epic battles, and a few fatalities.”
Sounds about right. Mortal Kombat 2 will be released October 24, 2025.
