If Mad Max: Fury Road ever gets The Disaster Artist treatment, Charlize Theron wants Halt and Catch Fire star to play her playing Furiosa

Theron recommends this actor because "she's got the arms." Which is ironic, if you consider Furiosa's character in Mad Max: Fury Road.

"Chaotic behind-the-scenes stories" are slowly becoming their own subgenre of biopic moviemaking. 2017's The Disaster Artist is a great example, or for a more recent entry, how about 2024's Saturday Night? Heck, even Paramount+ got in on the fun with The Offer, a miniseries about the making of The Godfather. With this niche subgenre on the rise, one movie's backstory has to be a candidate for another entry - that is, the making of 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road.

We won't go too deep into the storied, troubled production of the Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy-starring film (though the movie's development Hell and battle with the elements are worth a google). However, we can say for certain that, if a "Making of Fury Road" movie were to be made, star Charlize Theron knows who she'd play to play her.

"[Mackenzie Davis] is incredible," Theron tells The Hollywood Reporter, "She’s got the arms."

If you're wondering why Theron might suggest Davis to play herself, we'd recommend checking out the movie that brought them together - 2018's parental drama/comedy Tully. We won't spoil too much much here, but fans who've already seen the movie could understand why Theron would've come to trust Davis with such a sensitive task as playing herself.

Now, that's not to say the role Theron sees her on-screen analog in is a negative one. Theron was very clear about the fact that she bears no ill will against the makers of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga or the actor that played the titular role - Anya Taylor Joy.

"I watched it," Theron says of the Mad Max prequel, "And I think it’s a beautiful film. I am a massive fan of Anya [Taylor-Joy]. She’s an incredible actor. There’s nothing around [the recasting] that, to me, felt malicious. It was something that just dragged out for too long, and I totally understand it. It still doesn’t make it feel any better. I probably lived in [Furiosa’s] body the longest out of any of my characters, and it was challenging. It was really challenging. But I am so supportive of what ended up happening, and I think the movie is absolutely beautiful."

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is streaming now on Max.
