Hammers at the ready as The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim anime movie comes to Max streaming in February 2025
The Lord of the Rings anime movie takes place hundreds of years before the Peter Jackson trilogy or most of Tolkien's writing.
Popverse's top stories of the day
- My New Years Resolution is to watch less anime in 2025 - but to enjoy it more
- Sam Wilson has always been the perfect successor as the MCU's Captain America and Brave New World will show that
- Is Severance enough to make AppleTV+ a real player in streaming?
Rally your allies for another trip into Middle-earth. After its brief theatrical run last year, Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim already has a release date for its Max streaming debut and it is coming in just a few weeks. That gives you plenty of time to get your hands on one of those epic popcorn buckets before you set up your viewing party.
The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim is coming to Max in February 2025, according to the What’s New page on the Max homepage. The feature didn’t give a specific release date for the anime’s debut on the streaming site, but we suspect it will be near the start of the month. It just means that we have to keep our elf eyes peeled for a more specific release date.
War of the Rohirrim isn’t the only animated Tolkien adaptation to come to Max lately. The deliciously chaotic Ralph Bakshi animated film from 1978 was just added to the streamer’s library last year. Now the 2024 anime is joining it in Max’s Lord of the Rings collection.
The cast of War of the Rohirrim includes Brian Cox, who had been nearly cast in previous Lord of the Rings films, as Helm (of Helm’s Deep fame) and Gaia Wise, who plays his daughter Hera, in the prequel to the events of the books and the Peter Jackson films. The movie is already available to rent or purchase digitally on Prime Video but is set to come to Max in February 2025.
