Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim star Gaia Wise was so excited when she was cast that neighbors called the police on her

She had to explain to the very polite officer that she had simply gotten a job. We've all been there.

We’ve all had good news that had us screaming for joy, but combine that enthusiasm with a trained actor’s ability to project their voice and it can lead to some misunderstandings. Getting a part in the latest Lord of the Rings film is certainly cause for celebration, after all. For Gaia Wise, who plays Hera in The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim anime film, their joy at being cast in the movie led to an awkward visit from the police.

During an interview alongside co-star Brian Cox, Gaia Wise recounted the audition process for the role. “I auditioned for it and did, I think, two or three [reads] if I remember correctly. First, I was just recording my voice, which was, again, not something I’m used to. It all comes from within, I suppose. And then I got the part and I’ve told this before, but I screamed so loudly that my neighbors called the police, thinking something had happened to me.”

To make matters worse, the nature of the work meant that Wise couldn’t tell the police why she had been screaming at the top of her lungs in her home.

“And then I got a very lovely, you know, bobby from the street going, ‘Is everything okay in here?’ I had to say, ‘I have a job.’” Because of the NDAs that often come with roles, Gaia Wise couldn’t tell the police that she just landed a leading role in The Lord of The Rings: The War of the Rohirrim movie – she just had to play it cool and hope they didn’t ask too many follow up questions.
