Disney Animation just can’t let it go. At D23 Expo 2024 on Friday evening, Frozen 3 was announced as a 2027 release from filmmaker Jennifer Lee… as well as Frozen 4, as well.
Saying that there “were a lot of questions coming out of Frozen 2,” Lee revealed that “it will take two films to answer them.” Officially, Frozen 4 was not announced, leaving the way for an untitled Frozen spin-off to be the second movie answering the questions, but that is a mystery for another day. For now, all we need to do is remember that Elsa, Anna, and everyone else will be back in just a handful of years’ time… and that they’ll be likely returning very soon after that, as well.
(When are we going to get a follow-up to The Emperor’s New Groove, that’s what I want to know.)
Frozen was originally announced in 2023 with a planned 2026 release. No reason was given for the change, but goes along with Disney's overall strategy to stagger release dates across its Lucasfilm, Disney Animation, Marvel Studios, Pixar, and yes, Walt Disney Animation lines.
