Mike Flanagan loves to adapt a Stephen King story, doesn't he? The director has taken on King stories like Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep, and he's continuing his streak with The Life of Chuck. Starring Tom Hiddleston, The Life of Chuck was originally published in King's If It Bleeds anthology.
Now, the distributor NEON will release The Life of Chuck in theaters on May 30, 2025. Hiddleston will be joined by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Jacob Tremblay, Mark Hamill, Matthew Lillard, Heather Langenkamp, Harvey Guillen, David Dastmalchian, Carl Lumbly, and Rahul Kohli. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year.
If you're anticipating another terrifying Stephen King movie from Mike Flanagan, perhaps look elsewhere. The Life of Chuck isn't one of those stories. It tells the life story of a man named Chuck Krantz, beginning with his death and going backward through time. It's more a sentimental tale than one rooted in horror. Let's also remember that King wrote Stand By Me and the novella that would later be adapted into The Shawshank Redemption. King's writing has quite a bit of genre range, and Mike Flanagan seems poised to tackle all of the writer's corners.
Flanagan was recently announced as the writer of an upcoming Clayface film for DC Studios. The future has never looked brighter for the filmmaker.
The Life of Chuck will release on May 30, 2025 in theaters.
