It's about time Netflix announced that KPop Demon Hunters is getting a sequel! (We've all been assuming it was a given all along, but it's nice to have it confirmed.)

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the directing team behind the global phenomenon, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, is set to return for the sequel film at Netflix. What's more is that Kang and Appelhans are signed onto a "multi-year writing and directing pact."

In a statement, Kang said, "I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters. There’s so much more to this world we have built and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning."

Appelhans echoed this statement, saying, "These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation and story can come together."

It's not currently known if Netflix or Sony Pictures Animation (the studio behind the first film) has a release date for the sequel in mind. Let's also remember that Sony Pictures Animation is also the home of the animated Spider-Verse movies. Animation takes a long time to bring to completion (not to mention under ethical work conditions), so it remains to be seen if we'll be waiting for the KPop Demon Hunters sequel as long as we've been waiting for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

KPop Demon Hunters is streaming on Netflix - but you already know that.
