Knives Out movies will continue forever, as far as their creator is concerned

Rian Johnson's original deal with Netflix might be over with Wake Up Dead Man, but the director is hoping to keep making more as long as he and Daniel Craig can get together.

Netflix has managed to create several movie franchises over the years, but one of the most popular remains the Knives Out films created by Rian Johnson and starring Daniel Craig as the charming and brilliant detective Benoit Blanc. Wake Up Dead Man is the third film in the franchise and the final Knives Out movie as part of the initial deal Johnson had with Netflix, but it doesn’t have to be the final outing for Blanc.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, Rian Johnson explained that he is in a hurry to stop making Knives Out movies even after Wake Up Dead Man comes out. “I’m not sick of making these movies,” he said. “I feel invigorated, if anything… I would be happy if Daniel [Craig] and I kept doing other work, then coming back and making one of these every once in a while, for the rest of our lives. I’d be thrilled with that.”

The prospect of Benoit Blanc, with his accent and baffling swimwear, returning is a good one for everyone involved. There are always going to be murders to solve and rich people to bring to justice, so it isn’t like there is a shortage of plots to explore. We can’t imagine Netflix wanting to let a franchise like this go to waste, so as long as both Johnson and Craig can keep coming together now and then to make more Knives Out movies, we suspect they’ll be happy to stream them.

Wake Up Dead Man, the third (but hopefully not final) Knives Out movie, is coming to theaters on November 26, 2025 and Netflix on December 12, 2025.
