Daniel Craig reads each new Knives Out script like his character - and doesn’t want to have the mystery spoiled for him in advance

Daniel Craig, who plays Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson's Knives Out movie series, doesn't want to know who the killer is while reading the script

Daniel Craig is best known for playing a stoic James Bond, but the actor has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence these past few years ever since he stepped into the role of Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson's Knives Out series. Beyond his dapper clothes, thoughtful personality, and affinity for donut holes, audiences love Benoit Blanc because he's Daniel Craig as they've never seen him before. Of course, those of us who saw Logan Lucky before Knives Out came out knew that Daniel Craig has some serious accent chops, but I digress.

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Craig revealed the state of mind he gets in when reading a new Knives Out script. “I read them, I suppose, like Benoit... I’m trying to sort of get in Benoit’s head. I don’t read it wanting to know who the murderer is; I want to know what the whole is," Craig began. He also added that he told writer-director Rian Johnson, "I don't want to know!" when asked by him if he wanted to know who the killer was beforehand.

Elsewhere in the interview, Craig said that he's a fan of re-reading scripts. “It’s like watching the movies – it’s always great to watch it a second time, because there are always bits you miss," said Craig. Rian Johnson is known for his intricate stories, so I can understand why Craig would want to read his scripts multiple times. There is a lot packed in there!

Craig's next outing as Benoit Blanc is Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. It hits theaters on November 26 before arriving on Netflix on December 12, 2025.
