Even for major stars like Scarlett Johansson, there are certain franchises that hold a special place in their hearts. After spending years with Marvel Studios as Black Widow, she set her sights on another major role. Scarlett Johansson’s debut in Jurassic World Rebirth is both the fulfillment of nearly 30 years of hard work to get into the Jurassic Park franchise and a promise she made to Steven Spielberg himself.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Scarlett Johansson explained that she had been “trying to infiltrate the Jurassic universe for like three decades.” Like many people, she had a bedroom full of dinosaur merch, including a Jurassic Park pop-up tent that she slept in for almost a year. She says that her experience with the casting process is evidence that “fangirling pays off.”

“I heard that there was a role that I might be right for,” she explained during the interview. “And I had a general meeting with Steven Spielberg; which was one of the greatest moments of my professional career.” After not discussing the potential role in Jurassic World Rebirth for a large chunk of the meeting, Spielberg finally said, “Oh, we’re supposed to be talking about Jurassic!” which was the moment Scarlett chose to shoot her shot.
“I think I said to him, ‘I will deliver this for you. I promise,’” Scarlett Johansson says, which was apparently enough to help secure her the role of Zora Bennet in Jurassic World Rebirth.

Jurassic World Rebirth, with all its terrifying dinosaur action, is out in cinemas now.
