Director Jordan Peele's Nope follow-up is less than a month away - but it's not what you think
To be fair, the Get Out director's upcoming documentary High Horse: The Black Cowboy is at least partially inspired by Nope. It's just not about aliens

In the 2022 horror adventure Nope, Keke Palmer's character Em discusses the largely unknown legacy of Black horse riders in cinematic history. Now, Nope director Jordan Peele is diving deeper into another forgotten (or downright stolen) story of Black legacy in a founding piece of American history: the Wild West. From Peele and his production company Monkeypaw comes the three part documentary High Horse: the Black Cowboy. Check out the trailer below.
It was Deadline that reported on the first trailer for High Horse, and revealed the Nope inspiration behind it, in an article published November 5. Along with the video above and release date revelation, Deadline also recounted a statement director Peele attached to the news.
"I’m grateful to Monkeypaw for amplifying the powerful voices and long-standing culture of Black Cowboys and Cowgirls through High Horse: The Black Cowboy, on Peacock," Peele said. "Their history is inseparable from the story of our country — and this project aims to honor and celebrate their lasting legacy."
Indeed, the story of the Black Cowboy is something that few Wild West history books include in their telling of that particular part of American history, and High Horse seeks to remedy that. It seems like those stories will include that of lawman Bass Reeves - who we believe artist Bun B is talking about in the trailer when he says "the real Lone Ranger was a Black Man." More than Western Heroes, though, High Horse promises to get into the origins of Country Music which, too many forget, ultimately comes from Black Culture.
High Horse: The Black Cowboy will feature interviews with Peele, Bun B, Blanco Brown, Pam Grier, Lori Harvey, INK, Tina Knowles, Rick Ross, Glynn Turman, Lynae Vanee and The Compton Cowboys, reports Deadline. The three-part documentary will be available to stream on Peacock November 20.
