James Bond returns in new audio drama ahead of Amazon’s film reboot
We're still waiting to find out who will play James Bond in the next film, but at least we've got the new Young Bond audio dramas to look forward to

We’ve been waiting a long time for a new James Bond movie, and it looks like we’ll have to wait a little bit longer. However, fans of the world’s most famous secret agent (which is kind of a bad thing when you think about it) can get their fix… in the form of a new audio drama from Big Finish. Young Bond is set to come out this Fall and aims to portray the future 007 during his schoolboy years.
This new audio drama series is an adaptation of the Young Bond books, which were written by Charlie Higson. The first book in the series, 2005’s SilverFin, will be the basis for the first audio drama, which is launching in September 2026.
The announcement doesn’t include any casting news for James Bond, which is fitting because Amazon MGM Studios has been stalled for years in finding their next James Bond actor. According to the company’s website, “Big Finish will soon be casting the roles of James Bond and Wilder Lawless, his free-spirited ally, and is inviting approaches from actors’ representatives only.” In all likelihood, the next James Bond casting news you’ll hear about won’t be for the big screen at all.
This project comes during what will almost certainly be the longest gap between James Bond films in the series’ long history. No Time To Die came out in 2021, but we don’t expect to see Bond back on the big screen until at least 2028. Six years was the previous longest gap, which came between License to Kill (1989) and GoldenEye (1995). While Big Finish looks for their lead to play the future 007 in the Young Bond audio dramas, Hollywood continues to search for their own grown-up version of the spy.
