Bad news, Mr. Bond: We're probably 2 years away from finding the next James Bond, as director Denis Villeneuve is focused on Dune: Part Three
Amazon MGM Studios have hired Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight to write the script, but we're still probably years away from seeing any James Bond casting news.

It has been a long wait for a new James Bond movie. Long enough that we’re being constantly swamped with rumors about casting and release dates. However, we really only know two things about what comes next for James Bond. First, that Dune director Denis Villeneuve will direct it. Now, we also know that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has signed on to write the script. But don’t get excited – we probably won’t find out anything else until after Dune: Part 3 is out.
For those keeping score, the most recent James Bond movie was 2021’s No Time to Die, which was also Daniel Craig’s last outing as the iconic spy. Since then, we’ve been subjected to swirling rumors about what Villeneuve’s take on the franchise will look like. Deadline has reported that Steven Knight, the creator of the hit series Peaky Blinders, has been hired to write the script. However, there is a catch; no real work on the next James Bond movie will start until after Dune: Part 3 is done.
This is pretty reasonable, considering Denis Villeneuve is working on one of the most ambitious film franchises in history. It makes sense that Warner Bros. will want his complete focus on Dune: Part 3 until it is out in theaters. However, this detail means that we won’t be getting any real casting news – including who is going to play James Bond in the next movie – until 2027.
Realistically, we’re probably looking at 2028 as the earliest release date for the next James Bond movie, which would, incidentally, be the longest gap between movies in franchise history. The previous longest was from License to Kill (1989) and GoldenEye (1995).
Amazon MGM Studios clearly believes in Villeneuve’s vision for the character and is willing to wait to see it happen.
