Body-swapping sci-fi thriller It's What's Inside kicks off spooky season on Netflix with an October release date
The trailer makes it feel like a horror film, even if the director insists it isn't.

While the trailer for It’s What’s Inside might lead you to believe it falls firmly into the horror genre, the film is actually closer to a sci-fi comedy. The fact that It’s What’s Inside’s release date on Netflix is right at the start of the spooky season only makes things more confusing. The movie was a big hit when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024, which led to it finally getting a wider release via Netflix.
According to director Greg Jardin, It’s What’s Inside is not a horror movie. “We never considered it horror,” he explained earlier this month. “I’d say it’s a sci-fi thriller with jokes.” In it, a group of friends gather for a pre-wedding party that includes the timeless combination of secrets, booze, and a body-swapping briefcase that puts them all into each other’s bodies. It’s What’s Inside debuts on Netflix on October 4, 2024, so we won’t have to wait long to find out how badly things go once everyone is all mixed up.
The trailer certainly feels like it could be the setup for a horror movie. A group of suspiciously good-looking young people in a remote, dimly lit house, gathered around a mysterious briefcase that switches their bodies is a horror setup if we’ve ever heard one. Even if it is light on actual scares, it feels creepy so we’re still going to say It’s What’s Inside is a welcome way to kick off Netflix’s Halloween season.
It’s What’s Inside is coming to Netflix on October 4, 2024.
