Hugh Jackman has quit as Marvel's Wolverine more times than he can count - but now for the first time, he's being more honest to himself and fans about his return

Hugh Jackman used to say he'd never come back as Wolverine, but now, he's learned to never say "never."

When an actor is asked whether or not they'll reprise a superhero role, can we ever really trust that they're responding honestly? I'm not saying this as a moral judgment, of course, but rumors circulated around whether or not Andrew Garfield was going to show up in Spider-Man: No Way Home, for instance, and the actor repeatedly denied that it was him. And then, lo and behold, he appeared in the movie. So who knows anymore!

On the Graham Norton Show, Hugh Jackman was jovially called out by the host about his history of denying involvement in upcoming superhero projects, only to slyly confirm his appearance later on. Norton said, "Every time you're on, you gotta go, 'Nope, I'm not doing that again.' But then you keep making another one. And it's a big, big hit. So are you gonna have to do it again?"

Jackman responded by saying, "I am never saying 'never' ever again. I did mean it when I said 'never,' until the day when I changed my mind. But I really did for quite a few years, I meant it."

To be fair, we don't know the timeline for when Jackman changed his mind, or if he ever actually needed to change his mind. Because frankly, whatever happens in Hugh Jackman's mind is none of my business, unless he doesn't like Emma Frost. Then we've got a problem.

Anyways, we don't know if Ryan Reynolds or Hugh Jackman are going to show up in Avengers: Doomsday, or even if I'm going to show up in the movie as a size-accurate Wolverine. Either way, we'll know in about a year's time when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters.
