MCU star Michael Rooker couldn’t stop falling asleep during his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 death scene, according to co-star
Sometimes an actor just needs a nap, even if they’re filming a death scene in a Marvel Studios film.

Falling asleep at work is nothing new. Most of us have done it at one point or another. Sometimes it’s because a meeting is boring, your desk is feeling comfy, or you just didn’t get enough rest the night before. The point is, it’s an experience most of us can relate to.
However, falling asleep while you’re filming your death scene in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film is next level. According to Pom Klementieff, that’s just what one of her Guardians of the Galaxy costars did.
During a spotlight panel at ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024, Klementieff was asked which of her costars messed up and broke the most scenes. “We’re too professional for that,” Klementieff answered.
However, after considering it for another moment, a particular incident came to mind. “Michael Rooker, do you remember that scene where’s he’s dead,” Klementieff asked. She’s referring to a scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 where Rooker’s character Yondu gave his life to save the Guardians from the villain Ego.
“He was dead, well fake dead of course – movie stuff. Chris Pratt was making a beautiful speech because he’s dead. It was pretty emotional. And Michael Rooker, take after take, he started falling asleep. That was rude [laughs], so we were like pushing him. [Imitates snoring] Wake up! So yeah, he was kind of breaking the scene in some ways.”
In fairness to Rooker, actors usually have early call times, and he probably had to lie still for a really long time. I can’t blame him for falling asleep. Honestly, that’s a pure Yondu move. The next time you feel yourself drifting away at work, just remember, Marvel heroes do it too.
