Between films like It Follows, Watcher, The Guest, and Longlegs, Maika Monroe has established herself as one of the most prominent scream queens of her generation. But she's not stopping there. Now, the actress has teamed up with Capcom for a live-action short film released in preparation for Resident Evil: Requiem arriving in game shops later this month.
Resident Evil: Requiem follows a young FBI analyst named Grace Ashcroft, whose mother, Alyssa, was an investigative reporter during the Raccoon City Incident that unfolded during the events of Resident Evil 2. The short film, called "Evil Has Always Had A Name," takes place as Raccoon City is hit with a wave of zombies. Take a look below.
Resident Evil fans, myself included, have been rallying around the short. Some of the top-voted comments at this time of writing are, "This is only 3 minutes long and it's far better than the entire movie franchise and the Netflix series" and "That was better than all the Paul W.S. Anderson R.E. movies." And I agree. In just three and a half minutes, we're introduced to our characters, we're given a reason to care for them, and we're devastated when the film comes to a close.
When Resident Evil: Requiem comes out later this month, I'll be looking around Raccoon City to see if I can find the grave of the little girl from the short film.
Resident Evil: Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026.
Even if seven minutes is all you have to play with, these Resident Evil articles will get you ready for what's next:
