We’re all returning to the pizzeria this week, as Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 releases in cinemas at long last. After more than two years, the December release date for the sequel is here. Star Josh Hutcherson has promised that the wait will be worth it, while series director Emma Tammi says that we shouldn’t expect the animatronic monsters in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 to behave as we saw in the first movie.
“Stuff goes down,” Josh Hutcherson said in a recent interview. “It’s crazy. Everything that really worked in the first movie, we took that and just cranked it way up. We have, like, double the amount of animatronics. The movie’s way scarier, a lot of jump scares. It’s dark. You get into the psychological shit of the characters. It’s great.”
That isn’t the only thing that fans have to look forward to when Five Nights at Freddy’s returns on December 5, 2025. This time, the rules around the animatronics have changed. As the trailer suggests, the creatures manage to venture out into the world beyond the pizzeria. “They’re out for blood,” explained director Emma Tammi. “There’s, there’s some new elements in the fold. So I think, you know, as with any Five Nights at Freddy’s game, you know, not to get too close. You know, that’s probably no good if you’re face-to-face with an animatronic and you want to get the heck out of there. But, I think the way in which they’re operating is, you know, an exciting twist in the sequel compared to the first one.”
So the world of Five Nights at Freddy’s is getting a little bigger… and a little scarier. Exactly what we wanted this holiday season.
