Five Nights at Freddy's 2 leaves the pizzeria behind (but lets franchise creator Scott Cawthon tell the full story)

Cawthon is writing the full screenplay for the second FNAF movie, which abandons the pizzeria and lets the animatronics out in the wide, scared, world

Suddenly, five nights in a pizzeria seems easy. The first teaser for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has arrived, and the animatronics are on the move — which really isn’t good news for Mike… or anyone anywhere around him, it seems.

While the plot of the new movie remains under wraps, the trailer paints the essentials in broad strokes: the animatronics have managed to escape Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, and now they’re causing chaos (and murder!) throughout the town, including apparently the local high school judging by one jump scare. Does this mean that they’re specifically looking for Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) and his sister Abby (Piper Rubio), or is something else going on…?

As is only suitable for a FNAF movie, the teaser trailer isn’t short on jump scare material — slamming doors! People looking shocked! — while also offering some animatronic foreboding with darkness illuminated by glowing robot eyes. But what should we expect, given the creative pedigree of those behind the camera? Once again directed by Emma Tammi, the new movie is written entirely by franchise creator Scott Cawthon, ensuring that FNAF fandom is ready to check out the movie when it appears in theaters December 5.

Still, if more tease is necessary, enjoy the tagline Blumhouse has come up with: “Anyone can survive five nights. This time, there will be no second chances.”
