July is a big month if you love superheroes, but it is even bigger if you love supervillains. Earlier in July, we got Nicholas Hoult playing Lex Luthor in the well-received Superman from DC Studios. Soon we’ll get to see Galactus stomp across the MCU in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, played by Ralph Ineson. The two actors starred in Nosferatu together and have been trading messages about how they’ve both taken a turn as iconic comic book supervillains at the same time.
During an interview to promote The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Ralph Ineson admitted that he and Nicholas Hoult had spoken about their roles in two of the biggest superhero movies of the year. “We actually had a text conversation this morning about it. I sent him something off social media that said that he gave the all-time greatest superhero villain performance, and I said, ‘Hold my beer.’ He then laughed and said, ‘It’s hardly fair. You’re a cosmic entity; I’m just a guy.’”
It seems that Hoult isn’t eager to invite too much comparison between the two, despite Ineson giving him some playful teasing. “And I said, ‘Fair enough, but I am fighting four of them.’ And then he said something like, ‘But I get an upset tummy when I eat spicy food.’ So I think he’s given up on the man-on-demigod battle.”
To be fair, we don’t think even Lex Luthor would fancy his chances against someone as powerful as Galactus, so maybe Nicholas Hoult is taking the better course of action here.
