The Russo Brothers' next film will be an adaptation of Simon Stålenhag's visionary dystopian novel, The Electric State. Starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, The Electric State adaptation will be released on Netflix. And while Millie Bobby Brown is a familiar face in Netflix's streaming offerings, who else will be joining her on this journey through the American Southwest?
The cast of The Electric State features some of The Russo Brothers' most frequent collaborators, along with some new faces that we're excited to see in a sci-fi context. The cast is as follows:
- Millie Bobby Brown as Michelle
- Chris Pratt as Keats
- Devyn Dalton as Cosmo
- Ke Huy Quan as Dr. Amherst
- Stanley Tucci as Ethan Skate
- Terry Notary as Mr. Peanut
- Jenny Slate as Penny Pal (voice)
- Giancarlo Esposito as Colonel Bradbury
- Brian Cox as Popfly (voice)
- Billy Bob Thornton in an undisclosed voice role
- Alan Tudyk as Cosmo (voice)
- Woody Harrelson as Mr. Peanut (voice)
- Anthony Mackie as Herman (voice)
- Camrus Johnson as Sergeant Carson
- Jason Alexander in an undisclosed role
- Martin Klebba as Herman
- Patti Harrison as Ligotti
- Gabrielle Maiden as Penny Pal
It is great to see Ke Huy Quan continuing to get roles in high concept sci-fi projects ever since he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2023, for his role in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. Quan is in good company with fellow icons like Stanley Tucci, Giancarlo Esposito, and Brian Cox. Comedian Patti Harrison is also a delight to see, after her hilarious appearances on I Think You Should Leave and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. And, the more Terry Notary we see, the better. His role as an ape performance artist in Ruben Östlund's film, The Square, was arresting, and a great callback to his work on the Planet of the Apes films.
The Electric State is a dystopian story about a teenage girl who travels across the Southwestern United States in search of her brother. During her travels, she encounters the remnants of enormous robots scattered across the land. Given the amount of actors playing voice parts in this film, there will be plenty of robots to be seen and heard in The Electric State.
